What
CAKE is an artist-run series offering “Carte Blanche” to an artist each Saturday night, at 7.30pm, to present work and ideas of their choosing. The program is designed to challenge the status-quo of performance presentation. Embracing developments in other disciplines as integral to the history and future of contemporary dance, Chez Bushwick exhibits new dance works in conjunction with presentations of new music, video, theater, performance, and installation-based work. Contributing artists will be given complete artistic freedom for their contribution.

Chez Bushwick, an artist-run organization based in Brooklyn, is dedicated to the advancement of interdisciplinary art and performance, with a strong focus on new choreography. Since its inception in 2002, the organization has been acknowledged as a new model for economic sustainability in the performing arts, offering New York City's only $5 subsidy for rehearsal space, and thereby fostering the creation, development, and performance of new work. Chez Bushwick is also responsible for a number of monthly performance programs that encourage artistic freedom, collaboration, and creative risk-taking. Community & Coalition Building Chez Bushwick is a 2009-2010 recipient of a Rockefeller New York City Cultural Innovation Fund award, toward the goal of launching CAPITAL B: Coalition of Art & Performance Initiatives Towards A Livable Bushwick. This group of artists, local residents, nonprofit organizations and small businesses in the Bushwick sector of Brooklyn, is united and committed to arts-based economic development and urban revitalization.
